Itinerary
We will begin this journey in front of Amsterdam’s central train station, where a bus will transport us to Zaanse Schans, a picturesque village and the first stop on the tour.
This village is renowned for its iconic windmills, which have become a symbol of Dutch culture. While only 8 of the original 600+ windmills remain, they are still functional and meticulously preserved.
Our next destination will be Edam, a small town famous for its globally recognized cheese. This historic location features cobblestone streets, canals, and notable architecture, including the Kleine Kerk (Little Church) and Grote Kerk (Big Church). Its markets, bridges, and charming squares make Edam a delightful place to explore.
Following Edam, we will visit Volendam, a fishing village characterized by its colorful wooden houses and a lively harbor filled with boats. The Volendam Haven promenade is one of the key attractions for offering a vibrant scenery.
During our time here, we will also visit the Cheese Factory Volendam, where we will learn about traditional cheese-making processes and have the opportunity to not only sample various types of cheese but also take a good portion home with you.
Our journey will then take us to Marken, a town that was once an island and has been connected to the mainland by a dike since 1957. Marken provides a glimpse into Dutch history and culture, and we will visit a clog factory to observe the craftsmanship involved in making traditional wooden shoes.
To conclude the tour, we will return to Amsterdam and enjoy a boat cruise along the city’s famous canals. Known as the “Venice of the North,” Amsterdam’s waterways provide a unique view of the city’s landmarks. An audio guide in English will offer insights into the history and significance of the sights along the route.
