Times Square is located on one of the most famous avenues in Manhattan, at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and 45th Street and Broadway. It is probably the busiest and most exciting place in New York’s five boroughs, with a wide variety of bars, restaurants, theaters, skyscrapers, museums, and an incredible atmosphere.

 

With nearly 300,000 visitors each day, and around a million on New Year’s Eve, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. The lights, shopping, characters, and Broadway shows are the order of the day on the five streets that comprise Times Square, which stretch from 42nd to 47th Street.

See a Broadway Show

 

Broadway is as synonymous with New York as the Empire State Building and yellow taxis. Besides exploring the various theaters in Times Square and its surroundings, make sure to buy your tickets in advance to see your favorite show. The best way to get cheap Broadway tickets is at TKTS Times Square, where leftover tickets for the same day are sold. It is located at the corner of Seventh Avenue and 47th Street.

The Lion King is one of the classics, but there are others that have earned a place among the favorites of New Yorkers, such as The Phantom of the Opera, Aladdin, Wicked, Chicago the Musical, Hamilton, Moulin Rouge, and The Life Story of Michael Jackson.

Try Typical New York Food

 

New York Pizza is the classic dish when it comes to New York’s typical food. Yes, pizza. The New York style features huge slices of very thin crust, topped with a layer of spiced tomato sauce and a layer of mozzarella. Try it at the iconic John’s pizzeria and then let us know what you think.

Other New York delights include cheesecake, world-famous hot dogs, pretzels, fried chicken with waffles (we know that combination sounds a bit strange, but it’s really delicious), and pastrami sandwiches, especially those from Katz’s Delicatessen.

Now that you’ve seen the streets of Times Square, how about seeing the lights of New York from the highest point in the city? There are plenty of observation decks in New York, and one of the closest is Top of the Rock at the impressive Rockefeller Center.

New Year’s Eve Celebration in Times Square

Every year, as the clock approaches midnight on December 31st, the eyes of the world once again turn to the dazzling lights and bustling energy of Times Square. It is estimated that there are about 50 screens on the facades of the buildings in Times Square, all with LED lighting and high-definition images, displaying animated advertisements 24/7. One of the oldest brands is Coca-Cola, which has its own 3D advertisement.

And just in case you were wondering, yes, many internationally recognized events have been broadcast on the screens of Times Square. One of the most significant was the arrival of NASA’s Mars Rover, a small vehicle called Curiosity, in August 2012.
