Itinerary
On this free tour we'll take you off the beaten track to show you some of Bruges' most iconic sites and hidden gems. Along the way, we'll also tell you about the history and the most amazing aspects of medieval Bruges.
We’ll start this adventure at the Belfry Tower of Bruges, moving forward to the beautiful Grote Markt, the city's meeting point par excellence, before moving on to the equally emblematic Burg Square, which brings together the best of medieval art and architecture in one place. Did you know that this is the oldest building in Bruges, dating back to the 12th century?
Then, we will cross the Augustine Bridge to reach the Ghost House, a mysterious place full of legends. From here, we will walk to the Jan van Eyck Square, dedicated to the famous Flemish painter of the same name, and then we will come across the Purgatory House, the Long Canal and the Golden Hand Canal. Funny name for this canal, isn't it? Of course, we'll tell you why when we're passing through it.
Our next stop will be the Bar Vlissinghe, which preserves a piece of Bruges' history behind closed doors - it has been in operation since 1515! Further on we will explore the quiet and charming St-Anna Quarter; the Jerusalem Church, inspired by the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem; and one of the 45 ‘Houses of God’ in the city. These beautiful little houses were once built to care for the sick.
Nearing the end of the tour, we'll pass the Sint-Janshuis Windmill, the only one of the four windmills in the city still in use today for grinding grain, and stop at a typical local pub called Bauhaus. Here, we'll give you a ticket for a complimentary beer (buy one, get one free) to round off the experience, but not before hearing some tips and advice from our guide about other interesting things to do in Bruges.
