This must-see free tour will introduce you to the main highlights of Florence, also known as the “cradle of the Renaissance" and will get you acquainted with its exciting history.
After meeting your guide at Piazza San Lorenzo, one of the most important squares in the city, we’ll start admiring the Basilica that houses the Medici Chapel, in which the artists Michelangelo, Brunelleschi and Buontalenti participated in its creation and decoration. You will also see the Palazzo Medici Riccardi and begin to learn more about this powerful and influential family.
Next, you will continue to the Piazza del Duomo and the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, one of the largest in Europe and undoubtedly one of the great architectural and engineering feats of the Renaissance. Uncover details about the Baptistery, the Dome and the Bell Tower and then continue through Dante's Quarter - a network of incredible medieval alleys - to Piazza della Signoria, the most important and lively piazza in Florence.
In this square - which took its present form in the mid-13th century - you will see the Palazzo Vecchio, which has at the entrance the sculptures of Adam and Eve, and a copy of Michelangelo's David. There you will also find the Loggia dei Lanzi, a small open-air museum filled with various sculptures, a place where you can locals resting or enjoying the day.
The Free Walking Tour of Florence will make the next stop at the Vasari Corridor, a 1 km long structure that connects the Medici office with the Uffizi Gallery.
