Itinerary
In a few words, Évora represents the essence of Portugal. This is a city with a lot of history, where Romans, Celts, Arabs and Jews have passed through and located just 130 km from Lisbon. Come and discover Évora in this unmissable free tour!
There is no better place to start this free tour than next to one of the main monuments of Évora, next to the Agua de Prata Aqueduct. Almost 9 kilometers long, it is an incredible engineering jewel built by the same architect of the Belém Tower in Lisbon.
While you learn about the stories of its Arab and Roman past, we will begin to enter the old part of the city, where you can discover amazing places and structures such as the Casas Encastradas and the Roman Arch of Doña Isabel.
Once in the historic center, in Giraldo Square, we will continue to learn about the exploits of historical characters such as Geraldo Sempavor (Fearless Geraldo). In the cathedral or Sé de Évora, you will learn about the history of one of the oldest cathedrals in the country (founded in 1186).
Then we will continue to the famous Roman Temple of Diana, undoubtedly the most photographed place in Évora and the best preserved Roman monument in Portugal, which despite having been built in the first century BC, still retains its 14 slender marble columns.
After approximately two and a half hours of sightseeing and having passed by places such as the Church of São Francisco (which houses the famous Chapel of Bones) and the Church of Graça, the free tour of Évora ends at the Public Garden. Our guides will be able to give you suggestions to continue discovering Évora among walls, arches and World Heritage monuments.
