Itinerary
Come with us and explore Porto's oldest neighbourhoods with an English-speaking guide. We'll stroll along the Ribeira, where many of the city's main sights are located, and you will understand why the this area was declared, together with the historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We will meet at Largo Amor de Perdição, specifically at the statue of Camilo Castelo Branco. Here we will briefly see the house where Almeida Garrett, the famous Portuguese romantic writer, was born, and the Portuguese Centre of Photography, whose building was begun in 1767 and formerly served as a prison.
We will quickly set off to see the Parque de Cordoaria, considered the city's romantic garden par excellence; the Parque das Virtudes, famous for its belvedere with fabulous views of the Douro River; and the old English Club of Porto, a historic 18th century building that now houses the Order of Malta, a social and charitable organisation.
Our next stop will be at the Palacio São João Novo, with its beautiful baroque façade. We will take a short break to catch our breath and walk along Rua Nova da Alfândega and Rua de Belomonte, passing by emblematic sites such as the Casa do Infante, where the customs house operated since 1300, and the Church of São Francisco, built entirely in granite during the 14th century.
Of course, this experience would not be complete without seeing the amazing Palácio da Bolsa, of neoclassical architecture and considered a National Monument; the old Ferreira Borges Market, nowadays converted into a nightclub; and the Rua do Barredo, a very typical street that fully captures the essence of Porto.
After 2 hours of sightseeing, we will end this free tour at the Alminhas Bridge, a place with a very interesting history that you will already know. Your guide will be able to advise you about other places of interest, where to eat and interesting experiences that you can't miss in the city of Porto.
