Itinerary
After checking in with your guide at the meeting point, we’ll leave Porto to Santiago de Compostela and make our way into Spain. Our first stop will be at Santiago de Compostela, destination of the emblematic Way of St. James, one of the leading Catholic pilgrimage routes in the world since the Middle Ages and a network of roads across Europe and Spain.
The city is known around the world for its stunning Old City and the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, both designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s reportedly the burial place of Saint James the Great, one of Jesus' apostles.
We will start admiring the cathedral’s amazing architecture from the outside. Your guide will help you notice the Romanesque style of the cathedral, as well as the Gothic and Baroque elements that were added later. It was completed in 1181, although it has been renovated, reinforced and modified over centuries, up until the 18th century. It’s considered one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Spain.
Afterwards we’ll head toward the Old City of Santiago, where you will enjoy a traditional tapas lunch (included in the price). Then you will have free time to enjoy a walk through the historical center, buy souvenirs or experiente the interior of the cathedral, the Pilgrim mass and the botafumeiro.
Now it’s time to say farewell to Spain and head back to Portugal, as there are so many beautiful sites to discover in this full day tour. Get ready to experience Valença do Minho, a beautiful town located on the Spanish border, famous for its 13th century fortress, the international, Eiffel inspired bridge, connecting both countries and the mythical Roman milestone dating back from the 1st century AD.
You will enjoy free time to explore the incredible Fortress before returning to Porto around 18:00 hs.
