The Castle District: Where Prague’s Story Begins
We start at Malostranská metro station and hop on a short tram ride to the Hradčany district. This is where Prague Castle rises above the city, the largest ancient castle in the world and the seat of Czech rulers for more than a thousand years.
Inside the complex, we’ll pause at the St. Vitus Cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece with stained-glass windows that sparkle like jewels. Just steps away, the St. George’s Basilica offers a more intimate experience, its Romanesque simplicity a peaceful contrast to the cathedral’s grandeur.
Around the corner, the Černín Palace shows off the ambition of Prague’s baroque era, while the nearby Loreto sanctuary adds a touch of faith and charm, with bells that once guided pilgrims through the city.
Lesser Town and the Charles Bridge
From here, we descend into Lesser Town (Malá Strana). This neighborhood is like stepping into a storybook: cobbled lanes, pastel palaces, and quiet courtyards that feel untouched by time.
Next we’ll stumble upon one of Prague’s most unexpected sights: the John Lennon Wall. Covered in layers of graffiti and messages of peace, it’s a living canvas that changes with each generation.
Nearby, the Church of the Virgin Mary under the Chain reveals quirky medieval tales about knights and faith, while the imposing Black Tower reminds us of the city’s days as a fortress.
Our final stop is the Charles Bridge: Prague’s most iconic landmark. Lined with statues and alive with street musicians, it offers sweeping views of the river Moldau and the castle above. It’s the perfect way to end the tour, with the city laid out like a postcard.
Bonus: In summer, we’ll also wander through the Castle Gardens, where greenery and panoramic views add the finishing touch.
