Free Tour of Sintra

Of the many places around Lisbon, Sintra is one of the most beautiful, peculiar and charming. Named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, it stands out for being the epicenter of romantic architecture in Europe and for having been one of the summer resorts of the Portuguese royalty.

The Free Tour of Sintra begins at the stunning Sintra Town Hall, which faces the surrounding mountains. With views of the Sintra Castle, (also known as the Moorish Castle), you will learn the stories about the Templars of Portugal and about Gualdim Pais, the first Knight Templar of Portugal. 

We will continue the tour through Sintra to the Church of São Martinho, which has a close relationship with the Freemasons in Portugal. You will see the National Palace of Sintra, a former royal palace dating back to the 16th century and one of its main monuments. 

Apart from discovering why Sintra is classified as a World Heritage Site, you will learn about its gastronomic delights such as the Queijada and the famous Travesseiros de Sintra.

During the walk you will see why Sintra is considered by many as one of the most beautiful and special places in the world. You will learn why it became the focal point of the Romantic Movement of the 19th century, as well as stories about Freemasonry and secret orders, the Arab legacy and the Christian conquest.

No visit to Sintra can be complete without admiring the peculiar Quinta da Regaleira, a palace full of eccentricities and esoteric symbols. In the final part of the tour, we will approach the Seteais Palace, a former 18th century palace converted into a luxury hotel. From its gardens, you can admire the magnificent scenery surrounding Sintra. 

Once the tour is over, the guide will be able to give you recommendations on how to visit the Pena Palace or the Moorish Castle, two monuments that are too far from the tour to be included in the tour. You can also get tips on where to eat in Sintra or what other activities to do.

How much does the Free Tour in Sintra cost?

The price is up to you. Free tours do not have a set price. You can book for free and at the end of the tour, each person will pay the amount they choose according to the degree of satisfaction and quality received.

You will be in the company of professional and passionate guides who will do their best to make your experience extraordinary, different and entertaining. 

• The use of comfortable shoes and clothes is recommended. The entire tour is done on foot.
• The tour is not accessible for people with reduced mobility.
• Group reservations of more than 7 people are not allowed.
• The maximum allowed is 3 children per adult.

If your group is larger than 7 adults and you have made several separate bookings under different names, (but all for the same group), before starting the tour you will be asked to pay 10€ per adult and 5€ (under 18 years old).
