Itinerary
The charming Yungay neighborhood in Santiago is a historic and beautiful part of the Chilean capital. Selected as one of the most attractive neighborhoods in the world by the British magazine Time Out in 2022, its streets are full of museums, restaurants, and monuments that invite you to explore and immerse yourself in its essence. You can't miss it!
After meeting your guide, we will begin the tour towards the Museum of Memory and Human Rights. This museum, which never ceases to attract attention with its dazzling facade, makes visible everything that happened during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990), a period that left a great mark on Chilean history.
We will continue to the Gabriela Mistral Museum of Education, which offers an attractive compilation of the history of education in Chile through various exhibitions, and then we will walk through the Adriana Cousiño Passage, a beautiful and elegant open residential complex dating back to the 1920s and which at one time housed middle-class families.
Our next stop will be at the French Barber Shop, a very peculiar place where not only haircuts are offered, but it also functions as a museum and restaurant. In its rooms with antique objects and red velvet curtains, history, heritage, and cuisine merge perfectly. You can't imagine everything that has happened here in 156 years!
The tour will continue in the historic Plaza Yungay, the most important in the neighborhood, a meeting place par excellence where the area's relevant events are traditionally celebrated. Here the guide will explain the meaning and importance of the Monument to the Chilean Roto.
Of course, this tour would not be complete without seeing two imposing palaces in Yungay, the Álamos Palace, in the French neoclassical style, and the Winghtman Hoffman Palace, striking for its neo-Gothic architecture.
We will end this enriching experience at the Church of the Capuchins, built in 1853 in honor of Saint Anthony of Padua after the arrival of the Minor Franciscans in the country. At this point, your guide can give you some recommendations on other activities that you should not miss on your adventure in Santiago de Chile.
