Itinerary
Toledo is located just 70 kilometers from Madrid and is one of the most popular day trips from the Spanish capital. This beautiful city, often referred to as a "city-museum," was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is one of the oldest cities in Europe and was home to the great painter El Greco during the 16th century.
The city earned the name “The City of the Three Cultures” because, for centuries, it was home to Christian, Muslim, and Jewish communities. It is known for its artistic beauty, with buildings that blend Arabic, Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.
Your visit will begin wandering through the city's cobbled streets, where you will hear stories about the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes, commissioned by Queen Isabella I of Castile, and this stunning Gothic monument stands as a lasting testament to her legacy.
Your guide will also share stories about one of the most charming monuments of Toledo: the ancient Synagogue of Santa Maria la Blanca, located in the Jewish quarter. It is considered a true symbol of the cooperation of the three cultures that populated the Iberian Peninsula in the Middle Ages.
We’ll eventually get to Toledo’s Cathedral. Admire the magnificent façade and the tall bell tower before getting inside. This impressive monument was built over a Muslim mosque and a great example of Spanish Gothic art.
During your visit, you’ll see The Burial of the Count of Orgaz, the famous painting by El Greco, housed in the Church of Santo Tomé, as well as the Sacristy, full of masterpieces of the former art museum it was. Amongst them, see fifteen paintings by El Greco.
At the end of the guided tour, you will have some free time to enjoy the city at your own pace before returning to Madrid.
